Riverside Is Expanding!
In 2022, Riverside unveiled an exciting new vision for the expansion of the Visitors Center. Louisville Metro budgeted a $1.5 million investment in this vision. Now, Riverside, the Farnsley-Moremen Landing, Inc. is working to raise an additional $3.5 million to fully realize Phase 1 and Phase 2 of this transformative project.

Riverside Expansion Renderings
Phase 1 includes:
- doubling the size of the Visitors Center multi-purpose room with an addition that opens to the river (current capacity is 120 people)
- adding a new kitchen that will serve as both a classroom and a catering kitchen when needed
- additional restroom spaces due to increased building capacity
- construction of an outdoor Event Court off the new addition that includes accessible paths, lighting, and paving
- new greener HVAC for the multi-purpose space using a geothermal wellfield and heat pumps
- new acoustical panels in multi-purpose room to improve acoustics
The full vision for the Visitors Center Visitors Center will include:
- expanded museum exhibit space
- new classroom and archaeology lab spaces
- a river view gallery with a balcony
- new climate-controlled spaces for museum storage of artifacts and documents
- expanded welcome and reception areas
- more visible and efficient museum store space
Each phase of the project opens the Visitors Center up to take advantage of its incredible setting on the Ohio River. The river is key to Riverside’s historical significance, and it is central to the site’s inspiring beauty. With more formal outdoor activity space and more windows to reveal the scenic views, the expansion will give visitors a greater appreciation for the location and its history.
