Come learn about the work and life of New Albany painter George W. Morrison with author Albertus Gorman on Thursday, September 24, 2026 @ 6:30 PM. Gorman’s soon-to-be-published book is the first comprehensive study of the work and life of an artist whose landscapes and portraits are a history of the region and its relationship to the Ohio River. From the days when New Albany could claim to be the largest and richest city in Indiana through Civil War and Reconstruction to the end of the 19th century, Morrison’s visual record of the Ohio River Valley provides a unique window into the area’s past.
Gorman’s research has been informed by access to Morrison’s recently discovered sketchbooks as well as a growing collection of paintings housed at the New Albany/Floyd County Cultural Arts Center.
