SUMMARY:The Secret History of Rock N' Roll: A Presentation by Michael L. Jones
DESCRIPTION:In his award-winning book Louisville Jug Music: From Earl McDonald to the National Jubilee\, Michael L. Jones explores the development of popular music through the prism of jug band music–and its Louisville origins. Jug band music is a pre-World War I jazz style that  combined river songs\, old time music and early ragtime. Jones’ talk will explore the links the folk music of the past has with some of sounds of contemporary music. \nMr. Jones is a free-lance journalist and author. He studied journalism at the University of Kentucky and history at the University of Louisville. In 2003\, he was among 10 writers selected nationally for the Academy of Alternative Journalism Fellowship at Northwestern University. Louisville Jug Music received the 2014 Samuel Thomas Book Award from the Louisville Historical League. Mr. Jones will have copies of his book available for sale after his presentation. \nJoin us for this fascinating exploration of an important part of Louisville’s cultural history! This presentation is free\, but RSVPs are encouraged by calling 935-6809 or emailing info@riverside-landing.org

SUMMARY:Family Farm & Forage Day--Cancellation due to Inclement Weather
DESCRIPTION:Hello everyone\, \nIt’s with no small amount of regret that we must announce the cancellation of Saturday’s Family Farm and Forage Day at Riverside\, the Farnsley-Moremen Landing. \nIf you live in the Ohio Valley\, you know to expect summertime showers and thunderstorms as almost a daily occurrence. Saturday’s event\, thanks to the remnants of Tropical Storm Bill\, is a different story. \nThe forecasters are in agreement that what we’ll have on Saturday is an all-day rain. As we’ve invited presenters from across the state of Kentucky to participate in this\, our inaugural event\, it’s a lot to expect them to come and spend their time in those conditions. \nThe good news is we’ve already set a date for next year. Family Farm and Forage Day will return on Saturday\, June 18\, 2016. With an extra year to plan\, our goal is to make it bigger and better! \nWe apologize for the inconvenience. \nOur next event is the popular Ice Cream Social on July 12 – see you there! \nYour Friends at Riverside\, the Farnsley-Moremen Landing
